    Who is Rita Ora?

She’s been hailed as the new Rihanna and is signed to Jay-Z Roc Nation… but who is Rita Ora? Backstage Mag finds out more about the rising star.

    Who is she?
Rita Ora is 21-years-old. She’s a British singer of Kosovo-Albanian descent. She grew up in London and went to the Sylvia Young Theatre School (which the Spice Girls’ Emma ‘Baby Spice’ Bunton also attended). In 2009, representatives from the Roc Nation label heard about Rita and she was flown to New York to meet rap superstar and label founder Jay-Z. Jigga signed her to the label and she subsequently featured in an advert for Roc Nation & Skullcandy Aviator Headphones. Rita also made a cameo in Jay-Z’s ‘Forever Young’ video and appeared in Drake’s ‘Over’. Rita cites her two main influences as Gwen Stefani and Beyonce. She’s been working on her debut album for two years, teaming up with top producers and artists including Drake, will.i.am and Stargate. The album is due for release in Summer 2012.

    Where have I heard her?
Rita provides the vocals for DJ Fresh’s anthemic ‘Hot Right Now’. She featured on two songs by R&B singer Craig David, ‘Awkward’ and ‘Where’s Your Love’. Her first single 'Party & Bullshit' premiered on radio at the end of February.
